Mary Cullen Kelly is an artist working in mixed media. A Dublin native, she now lives and works in Carlow, Ireland. Mary graduated from the National College of Art & Design, Dublin with a BFA in print, and has since studied Art Therapy in Crawford College Cork as well as completing a Masters degree in Developmental Disability Studies at University College Dublin.
From a professional background in the community and voluntary sector, Mary now focuses on her own arts practice. Using print and paint mediums mixed with collage, she blends abstract and representational elements to create atmospheric pieces that transport the viewer to a particular place or moment in time.
In addition, Mary is a founder member of the Blueprint Artists’ Network, based in Carlow, since 2008. Blueprint exhibitions, featuring contemporary artworks by artists based in the south-east primarily, have taken place each year since 2008 during the Eigse/Carlow Arts Festival as well as in recent years at Culture Night. Mary has also been a member of community arts projects led by Pure Thinking Carlow, specifically as lead artist on the ‘Restaurant at the End of the Universe’ street art piece and as solo artist on ‘The Three Birds’.
Mary had her first solo show Dreamlands in winter 2011 in the VISUAL Centre for Contemporary Art, Carlow http://www.visualcarlow.ie/exhibitions/info/dreamlands
